Table tennis has had it's Olympic funding for 2012 drastically reduced, so if Will is to realise his dream and compete on the world stage at London 2012, he will have to raise the necessary £300k himself - no mean feat for any 17 year old, let alone one who is separated from his family while he focusses on his game at his Eastern European training base. And, given the current economic climate, securing a large sponsorship deal from any one business or individual is no longer a realistic proposition... and so the idea for WillMeOn was born!
WillMeOn is an opportunity for us, the Great British public, to take the initiative and get behind one of our talented, budding Olympians, Will Maybanks, on every step of his journey to London 2012 - our Olympics. Via this website you can follow his progress and connect with Will through online networks as he pursues his dream.
Imagine if, right now, you were to donate just £1 to the WillMeOn campaign AND get 3 of your friends to do the same. Within just 15 'connections', we would smash clean through the £300k target raising over £1.5m! So whilst it may sound cliched, "every little really does help" and a donation of £1 is just as important to Will as £10 or even £100. As he said himself, "I've been totally blown away by how quickly the campaign has come together. Just knowing that people are getting behind me, giving their time, effort and money, has been a huge boost to my morale and I'm even more determined now, to repay that confidence in me and make this real."
Of course, if you'd like to donate a little more than £1, Team WillMeOn will be happy to oblige.:o) Click on the banner below to discover

Why £300,000? What's it being spent on?
Every £ donated goes straight into the fund for William. All the Team WillMeOn core members are providing their services completely free of charge and comprehensive financial records of how the money is being spent will be made available through the website and updated on a regular basis.
For William to achieve his goal of playing for Team GB in 2012, he needs to be doing far more competitions. Competing in just one tournament incurs costs relating to training, health and fitness management, travel, accommodation, equipment, entry fees and all the while, general living costs need to be covered. The £300k budget would cover 50 tournaments and 10 training camps as well as all the other costs mentioned.
William will be showing you how that money is making an impact by taking pictures and video every day on his mobile phone from training camps and tournaments all around Europe and posting updates directly onto the Internet. Other members of the core team will also be posting to the blog from time to time, so you will probably want to follow William on Facebook and Twitter and subscribe to this site's blog feed to experience the highs and lows as our Olympic star is born!
