WILLIAM MAYBANKS our Watford hero had high hopes for the Junior Nationals Tournament in Loughborough over the Easter Weekend! Training in Hungary with the best in Europe William was looking forward to putting into practice some of the concepts he has been learning over there.
A fairly good draw William was well placed in the competition and seeded no. 5 was destined to meet the number four seed in the last 8. Daniel Basterfield however proved to be a stumbling block in the last 16 and William went down 14, 8, 7 in straight sets.
William did however get the runners up spot in the Junior doubles and also came 3rd in the Mixed doubles event.
In discussion this week wth a clearly disappointed Will on the eve of his return to Hungary (Wednesday morning) he said that he had already had a session with his Sports Psychologist and was ready for the next challenge the Masters tournament and the British League Play-offs in May.
Gergely Urban (William's Coach) said, this is a minor set back for William what we have to do now over the next year is fill Will's diary with good quality competitive match play either in the Austrian or Hungarian national leagues. This will build Will's pressure point performance and take his game to the next level.
